Page 2. Our story.
Not taking no for an answer, the Prince persisted: "Your friends can wait. Put down your purse and dance with me!"
Unbelievably, it worked! The Princess did put down her purse, and start to dance with the Prince. Even more unbelievably, as Prince and Princess talked and danced, they found that they actually had a lot in common. Sure, they were from halfway around the world from each other, and had totally different families and backgrounds; but they had also had so many common experiences that it was uncanny.
For instance, the Prince was from the Deep South. The Princess, it turns out, after immigrating to the States, had attended graduate school in the Deep South as well. "I'm from the Say-uth, too!", she proclaimed cheerily, in a sort of fake Southern-Chinese accent that was just too cute to be believed.
The Princess introduced herself as Sonnet - not her Chinese name, but a new name which her friends had chosen for her. Her Chinese name means "poetry"; hence, "Sonnet". But the Prince didn't know that at the time - all he knew was that this beautiful Princess with the unusually beautiful name was utterly charming.
No matter what they talked about, they found that they had something in common - tastes in food and drink, music, their careers, travel, you name it. And no matter what the Prince said, the Princess always had a witty reply at the ready. The Prince quickly found himself enchanted with this woman, so different and yet having so much in common. To his delight, she seemed to like him just as much.
They spent the rest of the evening together - dancing, talking, and wandering around the Embassy. Even when he won the painting he had bid on at auction, the Princess came with him to see his taste in art. Finally, she went back to look for her friends. After collecting his painting, the Prince went to look for the Princess. Finding her, the Prince got down on one knee and looked straight into her eyes, and told her what a wonderful time he had had. Then he asked if he could see her again. The Princess thought the Prince was such a gentleman, that she agreed to gave him her... email address. ( >> next )
